OPEN RP POST (wip)

This is a general catch-all post for anyone who wants to thread with Ginko in his original setting - or at least something resembling it. Want to play an AU? Post-jamjar? Unexpected interdimensional travel? It's all good! In addition, if you want to thread something with mushi and such but in a more modern setting, I'm totally open to modern-day AU's. I'm fine with prose, brackets, whatever.

Please note that I'm totally open to using this post for action, fluff, whatever, but not smut. If you have any additional questions about the setting or types of mushi, just message me on this account!

Another quiet snort. "No. Not that I know of, anyway; it's just how it's always been for me. ...What about you? How did you get those, anyway?"

Turnabout is fair play, after all.

It was fair. And he wanted to talk to this guy as long as he could, learn what he could about this strange world. Even if he wasn't going to open Mushi Land, it would still be useful to learn to steer clear of what he couldn't see.

It was weird, being the blind one for a change. Well, besides the kind of blind that put a warning on his driver's licence.

"There's a kind of faerie called a phookah. Looks like a person with a horse's head, at least the one I met did. And apparently all blackberries in a given wood belong to him after the frost starts falling. Old nag caught me in his berry patch."

"...Huh. That's... too bad." Now he had a bit more of an idea of what JW had meant about convoluted rules. "So, how often do things like that happen where-- when you're from?"

[goldeneyeball]

"For me? Same shit different week. Everywhere else? I'm not sure...folks either blame something else on 'em or just don't know...my job is just taking care of the town."

In return for healthcare that wasn't shit. Who was taking care of who?

"Folks don't like havin' their world-view rocked..."

That sounded familiar. Except for the part about focusing on a specific town.

"Usually not, no. It's always seemed to me that making sure they understand what's happening can help, but... not everyone reacts well."

JW watched the smoke from Ginko's cigarette waft skyward for a while.

"Where you headed, then? Just...away?"

[onegreeneye]

"More or less. Thinking of heading north next." He paused a moment, then added, "I might be back here eventually. Not for a while, though; have to give some time for the mushi to clear out."

"Yeah? What's up north?"

He tried to remember what Japan was even shaped like. Maybe if he brought the guy a picture...

"Depends on how far you go. But, in this case, there's a friend who I haven't seen in a while. Thinking of visiting her, then I'll just... see what work I can find."

Think of a reason to go somewhere, go there, then keep going. Pretty much the same as ever.

"Well, good luck wherever you end up. I can't predict that for you, future or not."

He waved his hand, waving away the smoke. It smelled strange. Nothing he was familiar with.

"Thanks. Same to you; the future sounds pretty dangerous, mushi or not..."

Then he hesitated, his brow furrowing as another concern that had been nagging at the back of his mind fully occurred to him. When he spoke again, he made an effort to sound casual, but his voice was a little more cautious than it had been a moment ago.

"So, there... really aren't any mushi in the future, are there?"

JW gave a helpless shrug. "Not in Hawksaw, USA...I can't speak for every country. You ever been to Not Japan? World's huge!" He held his arms wide to show the approximate circumference of the Earth.

Ginko let out another quiet, half-amused huff. "I guess so. Maybe they are still out there after all."

It was a comforting thought. The idea of a world totally without mushi was disturbing, to say the least.

Almost! It was almost a laugh. So close.

"Who knows? Maybe I scare 'em away!"

Ginko grinned, shifting a little to rest his elbow on his knee. "Sounds like you would be good to have around here, then. Counteract whatever it is about me that keeps drawing them in."

Oooh. Lookit that. He had all his teeth.

"Y'know we have established I can't see these things. My house could be crawlin' with 'em without me knowing." However, the past HOUR would suggest that JW had the dumbest luck on the planet to still be alive. "I wouldn't worry about your mushi going away...Now ghosts! I could tell you if you had a ghost problem."

He raised an eyebrow slightly. "Ghosts?" He didn't quite sound doubtful, just a little uncertain; every 'ghost' he had ever heard of had turned out to be a mushi, but... they had kind of already established that JW had run into some things Ginko had never heard of.

JW saw that brow and raised his own. "Ghosts."

He leaned forward on the rock, elbow propped against his knee.

"Don't tell me you don't believe in spooks after saving my ass from two invisible boogiemen."

"Hey, never said I didn't believe you." He shrugged a little. "It's just that, around here, if you hear someone claiming there are ghosts around? Usually, it's actually something caused by mushi. Some can even look like humans - that causes a lot of confusion."

"Guess that would make things complicated...pal a' mine back home would get a big kick out of it though. It's my job to get ghosts out of folks' basements and sheds and wherever else they've managed to pop up. I say Job like I actually do it though."

He held his chin in his hands. He kept staring at Ginko's cigarette. He really wanted a smoke.

"Most of the time I just give them tips on keeping the noise down so they don't scare the old people into joining them."

"Hm. Sounds like being able to actually reason with them must make things go a little more smoothly." Ginko considered himself lucky if he could reason with the clients, let alone the mushi.

It would be hard not to notice that staring. Ginko pulled his box of cigarettes back out and offered one to JW. "You want one? They can take some getting used to, just a warning."

"Ghosts aren't all bad...seven times out of ten, they're just regular people who are stuck between here and...wherever it is they're headed. Sometimes all they need is a nudge in the right direction. Or some company."

He both grimaced and brightened at the offer. Wow, was he was an open today. JW and Shame didn't speak often but he still felt silly being caught so easily. He accepted the smoke and turned it curiously in his hands. Hand-rolled! Just the way he liked it. Damn. "You got a light?"

"That doesn't sound too different, actually. A lot of the time, mushi just end up where they shouldn't be; relocate them, and they're fine."

He nodded, passing JW his lighter. "Here."

Cigarette lit, JW took a long puff. And instantly regretted it. His eyes watered and his throat stung. This was not the kind of taste he was used to. Refusing to cough, he forced a grin and swallowed.

"Thanks!"

Ginko muffled a quiet snort. "I did warn you. Mushi cigarettes are pretty different from other cigarettes."
