OPEN RP POST (wip)

This is a general catch-all post for anyone who wants to thread with Ginko in his original setting - or at least something resembling it. Want to play an AU? Post-jamjar? Unexpected interdimensional travel? It's all good! In addition, if you want to thread something with mushi and such but in a more modern setting, I'm totally open to modern-day AU's. I'm fine with prose, brackets, whatever.

Please note that I'm totally open to using this post for action, fluff, whatever, but not smut. If you have any additional questions about the setting or types of mushi, just message me on this account!

"They do, huh. What makes you say that?" He's genuinely curious; even if this kid is misinterpreting something, it might be good to know what it is. And who knows, maybe they're on to something.

"...when you say that you wake up again... do you mean that it's the same as the last time you woke up?"

"'Cause I can tell, duh!" I mean, gosh, Ginko, isn't it obvious?

"Uh-huh." Frisk comes back over to Ginko with a handful of the berries, holding their hand out to offer them. "Here, you can have some."

Well that doesn't answer a lot.

"Thanks." He takes the berries, glancing at them uncertainly - he's willing to assume by now that Frisk knows what is and is not safe to eat here, but he'd rather see if he can identify these himself first. Also, this kid pets mushi, so.

At least he's taking a break from trying to get answers while he sorts out what he already knows here.

The berries are in fact perfectly safe, and Frisk munches away in silence until they reach the tiny trail again-but-not. Frisk waves back to Ginko to get his attention. "We gotta go this way now!"

It's sort of a relief to confirm that; he was hungry, anyway (not that Ginko is ever not hungry).

He looks up as they wave, then nods and pops the last couple berries into his mouth. "Alright... gotta say, this doesn't look like the path on my map."

"It's a secret path! So don't tell anybody, okay?" Frisk giggles and leads him up along the game trail, hopping over roots and holes with careless ease. It's pretty obvious they know the path like the back of their hand.

A little ways along, where the path becomes a little more clear, Frisk suddenly swerves off the trail yet again. "This way!"

Ginko follows behind them, more carefully, in near-silence. It's good to see they know their way around, anyway... not that that means he's not still trying to work out how he feels about this whole situation.

"--Whoa, uh... okay." He follows after them the best he can, jolted out of his thoughts again.

They look back with a shy little smile. "It's a little longer, but this way is safer. You shouldn't fall again."

They lead Ginko up the hill, which isn't a terribly hard climb but still enough to leave even Frisk somewhat out of breath once they reach a clearing near the top. Huffing and puffing for a moment, they let out a long breath before spinning on their heel and falling onto their back into the thick grasses.

"...What? What do you mean 'again'?!" He hurries after them, frowning intently and thinking back over what's been said before. Could that mean...?

Once they reach the clearing, he slows to a stop, resting his hands on his knees for a moment as he catches his breath. After watching Frisk drop, though, he lets out a quiet huff and drops his box on the ground before sitting down next to them, still examining them thoughtfully.

"What's your name, by the way?"

Wow, look at how conveniently they don't answer that question! Climbing sure takes a lot of concentration, doesn't it?

They smile up at Ginko, reaching up to pat his arm once he's sitting down. "I'm Frisk. What's yours?"

[onegreeneye]

Yep. So much.

"I'm Ginko. Nice to meet you." He gives them a brief smile before glancing around at their surroundings and pulling his box of cigarettes from his pocket. He's glad this kid seems to be so okay with mushi, but he'd rather the little creatures not start gathering around him too much.

[gainedlove]

"Nice to meet you, too!"

Frisk watches Ginko pull out the cigarettes and light one curiously, and after a moment sits up. Their nap can wait for a little bit. "Why do you breathe that? Is it tasty?"

Ginko gives a snort of laughter around his cigarette, miraculously managing not to choke. He's got a lot of practice, okay.

"--Ah, not exactly. It's something of an acquired taste, at least." He takes the cigarette from his mouth, blowing out another puff of smoke and watching it rise. "This smoke is a mushi repellent, so that I don't attract too many of them."

Frisk frowns for a moment, not quite understanding why he would want to drive the mushi off, before they remember what he had said about mushi making people sick. "Oh! 'Cause they'll cause trouble if they don't go away, right?"

"That's right."

He rests his elbows on his knees and leans back against his box. "At the rate I attract them, they could get to be a problem pretty quickly otherwise, even if I do keep moving."

[gainedlove]

Frisk hums and reaches upward to touch one passing by--a harmless type, thankfully, one that feeds on pollen. "So you can't stay nowhere?" Frisk can't imagine not having a place to call their own...not clearly, at least.

"Yeah. It's not really an option." He doesn't sound too upset about it, at least. "But I'm pretty well-suited to it."

They consider that quietly, catching the mushi and cradling it gently in their hands. It's a strange idea to them, wandering from place to place with nowhere to set down roots and grow properly. The other travelers that have passed through the mountain all spoke of destinations, a place to go to...but Ginko sounds more like a drifting leaf than anything else.

Frisk gently kisses the mushi on what probably serves for its head before releasing it, and then flops back once again into the grass. "Nap time!"

Ginko sits in silence for as long as Frisk does, listening to the sounds of the forest around them and letting out occasional puffs of smoke from his cigarette.

He blinks and turns to them again as they flop down, raising an eyebrow. "Now?"

He'd thought they were just taking a quick break, not going to sleep.

[gainedlove]

Frisk rolls onto their side and closes their eyes, waving at Ginko before they settle. "Just for a bit. We can go again soon."

"Alright, if you say so." He shrugs and sits back against his box again.

Frisk falls asleep very quickly, their breathing evening out and slowing as they drift off. After a minute or so, however, something odd happens.

Small yellow flowers, like those in their hair, start to sprout and bloom around the child. The buds start out sparse, but very quickly become not dissimilar to a small bed, not quite choking out the grass previously there but coming close to it. At the same time the flowers in their hair start to wither, dropping out and drying into dust. The newly growing flowers reach up with thin vines to take root, replacing the old ones almost as quickly as they fall out.

And all through this, Frisk barely even stirs.

Ginko doesn't notice at first. But then he glimpses a bloom of yellow out of the corner of his eye, turns to face them - and then stares.

He doesn't move to lean toward them or flinch away, and he certainly makes no move to touch the flowers... not at first, anyway.

After a few seconds, he opens up his pack and pulls out a pair of gloves and a small jar. He leans over just in time to catch one of the falling flowers in the container, closing it up with a cork a moment later.

He only takes a moment to examine the rapidly-drying flower inside the jar before stowing it back in his box. He'll look into that more later. In the meantime, he sits back and watches in silence as the flowers keep replacing themselves.

The whole process doesn't take more than a few minutes, the flowers finally settling and growing still. Those that bloomed around Frisk remain where they are, giving off a faint but sweet scent; for all the world it looks as if the child simply fell asleep in a normal bed of flowers.

A few more minutes pass, and Frisk stirs before opening their eyes. They giggle and take a deep sniff of the flowers before sitting up and smiling at Ginko. "You ready?"

He doesn't react all that much when Frisk wakes up, beyond a slight raising of one eyebrow; after a moment, he just nods slightly. "Yeah."

It's not until he's stood up and is in the process of shouldering his pack again that he tilts his head toward the bed of flowers. "Does that happen every time?"

He doesn't specify how the flowers got there, of course. He's got no idea if Frisk knows, but he kind of doubts it.
